Celts V Sassenachs 2020

16 members, including 6 of the Current Captain's Collective, competed in a Ryder Cup style match play competition. Conditions were calm, although still very wet underfoot as Paul Beecroft leading the defending champion Celts shook hands with Sassenachs Captain Richard Earle on the first tee just after 9 AM.

A keenley fought competition ensued, and was played in the best spirit of the game, resulting in the Celts retaining their title by three matches to one.

Following the golf, all the players plus a couple of the player's wives attended a traditional Burns Night Supper which included a Charity True / False game before the meal. Robert Kilgour triumphed in the game, which was set by Karen Stanton.  Ahead of the main course, Alistair Steele addressed the Haggis reciting the traditional Burns verse, before ceremonially cutting into the meat.

Following the meal the presentation of prizes took place:

Nearest the Pin on 5th: Simon Babbs

Nearest the Pin on 11th: Stuart (Mc)Waterman

Richard Earle then presented Celts Captain, Paul Beecroft, with the Dick Steels National Flag Trophy. The Sassenachs will have to wait another year to get the Trophy back into English posession. Well played the Celts!

Thanks to everyone who took part, Karen Stanton for setting the quiz, and to Robert Kilgour for donating his winnings back to the 2020 club charity, the British Heart Foundation. Britsh Heart Foundation, and special thanks to Alistair for donning national dress and reading the Ode to the Haggis. A top effort!
