18-hole Qualifying Medal (Stroke-play) Competition with an upper Playing handicap limit of 54 (95% handicap allowance) with divisions broken down as below.
There are 10 Stroke-play named events a year, with 5 to be played at the weekend and 5 to be played on a Tuesday. Players will be drawn in absolute handicap index order within the Silver, Bronze and Copper Divisions:
18-Hole: Upper Handicap Index Limit of 51.1 (i.e., Course Handicap of 57/Playing Handicap of 54). 9-Hole: No upper Handicap Index limit.
Division winners of any of the 18-hole Strokeplay competitions are eligible to play in The Masters Medal Strokeplay Competition, a Board Competition for Silver & Bronze divisions and is usually held in October; again, it's drawn in absolute handicap index order with 2 divisions.
Note: Copper Division winners are eligible to play in the Masters Medal but as it's a Board Competition, there is a maximum playing handicap of 36 – players who’ve qualified and have a PH of +36 are eligible to play but must play off 36 PH.
In 2023 the committee implemented a recommended Maximum Score Policy of 16 across all divisions in stroke-play events with effect from 01.11.23.
Players are asked to enter their own scores using either the IG app or the Touchscreen - remember, if a player picks up on a hole without recording an actual score or scores above Nett Double Bogey (based on their handicap) the scoring system will automatically adjust their gross score to a Nett Double Bogey. However, bear in mind - picking up on a hole in Strokeplay formatted competitions will result in an NR score for the competition but the score will still count for handicap purposes.
Once marker's and players have verified scores. Scorecards should then be handed in to the committee member handling scoring that day for verification, also ensuring that the scorecard has been completed correctly and signed by both player and marker.
Buggies may only be used in 18-hole trophies, medals and stablefords by players with a current medical certificate – to remain current this must be renewed annually with a copy supplied to the Ladies Secretary and Golf Manager at The Essex Golf & Country Club to keep on file.
